For the last few weeks
the weather in Southeastern Michigan has been outstanding for racing. Saturday,
the temperature peaked out around 84 degrees and it was partly sunny; it was
beautiful! (check out
Steve Kinley’s
Blog for more info) I don’t know if it was the weather, Saturday, or because of
the double point option for the race, but – it really turned out to be a
great race day. (The Brighton Stage Race and Stony Creek Marathon are the two
double point options in the Tailwind Series.) The
Cannondale tent was set-up on the straight away before the “race / finish” exchange. We were
adjacent to
Cycletherapy,
and across from
Team Fraser, it was a mini
“tent city”. The course was in average to good condition, with the exception of
the “Pines” and the turn before the “tent city”. During the race, we could hear
branches breaking and groans from riders crashing on the trail due to the muddy
/ wet conditions, Cannondale Midwest were unscathed by the muddy trail. Brian
Leary, Shawn Schaffert, Tim Mooney, Bernie Wendel, Wissman’s, Bryan, Ginger,
and Oliver raced, and all were able to complete the marathon. Congratulations
to Shawn and Ginger for taking 2nd place in their classes. Special
thanks to Steve Kinely, Mark Todd and Rick for coming
out and supporting the team. Check out the team this YouTube video,
Stony Creek Marathon. The next race in the
Tailwind series is ‘
Big M’ in Manistee, Michigan, Race 6 of 9,
July 19th.
The following weekend the
CPS series
has the time trial at
Stony Creek, Race
5 of 8, July 26th.
